Protect Yourself Against Flu

Flu can be a serious illness, particularly for older people, pregnant women, young children and those with certain health conditions. The NHS offers a free flu vaccination every year to people who are most at risk.

Who Can Have a Free NHS Flu Vaccination?

You may be eligible if you:

  • Are aged 65 years or over
  • Are pregnant (at any stage of pregnancy)
  • Have a BMI of 40 or above
  • Live in a care home
  • Receive Carer's Allowance or are the main carer for an older or disabled person
  • Live with someone who has a weakened immune system

You may also be eligible if you have a long-term health condition, including:

  • Asthma
  • COPD
  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease
  • Kidney disease
  • Liver disease
  • Neurological conditions
  • A weakened immune system
  • Certain blood disorders
  • A learning disability

Children aged 2 and 3 years, as well as school-age children, may also be eligible through the NHS childhood flu vaccination programme.

When Can I Have My Flu Vaccination?

Flu vaccinations are offered each year during the autumn and winter months.

Please contact reception to book an appointment when clinics become available.

If you already have an appointment with a doctor or nurse and are eligible for a flu vaccination, it may be possible to have your vaccine during the same visit. Please remind the clinician when you arrive.

For your comfort and to help clinics run smoothly, we recommend wearing clothing that allows easy access to your upper arm.

 

 

Where Can I Have My Flu Vaccination?

Eligible patients can choose to have their flu vaccination:

  • We encourage all eligible registered patients to have their flu vaccination at St.Katharine Docks Practicewherever possible.
  • Having your vaccination with us helps ensure your medical records are updated promptly and allows us to continue providing comprehensive vaccination services for our patients.
  • Through school vaccination programmes (for eligible children)

 

 

What Type of Flu Vaccine Will I Receive?

Different vaccines are used depending on your age and circumstances.

  • Most adults receive the flu vaccine as an injection.
  • Most children receive the flu vaccine as a nasal spray.
  • Some children may be offered an injected vaccine if the nasal spray is not suitable.

Our clinical team will ensure you receive the most appropriate vaccine.

 

 

Why Am I Still Receiving Reminder Text Messages?

If you have already had your flu vaccination elsewhere, please let us know.

There can sometimes be a delay between your vaccination being administered and the information being updated on your GP record. This may result in reminder messages being sent after you have already had your vaccine.

 

 

What If I Do Not Want a Flu Vaccination?

While we strongly recommend the flu vaccine for eligible patients, the choice is entirely yours.

If you decide not to have the vaccination, please let us know so we can update our records.
