A convenient way to receive your prescriptions
The Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) allows your GP to send your prescription securely and electronically to a pharmacy or dispensing appliance contractor of your choice.
Most NHS prescriptions are now issued electronically, making it quicker, safer and more convenient for patients to access their medicines.
How does EPS work?
Instead of collecting a paper prescription from the practice, your prescription is sent electronically to a nominated pharmacy.
You can choose, or "nominate", the pharmacy you would like your prescriptions sent to. Your nomination can be changed or removed at any time.
Once your prescription has been sent, your chosen pharmacy can prepare your medication ready for collection or delivery, depending on the services they provide.
Benefits of EPS
- No need to visit the practice to collect a paper prescription.
- Prescriptions are sent securely and electronically, reducing the risk of them being lost.
- Greater convenience, especially for patients who receive regular or repeat medications.
- Prescriptions can be sent to a pharmacy near your home, work or another convenient location.
- If a prescription needs to be amended or cancelled, this can often be done electronically, avoiding unnecessary journeys.
- Your pharmacy may be able to prepare repeat prescriptions before you arrive, reducing waiting times.
- You can manage your nominated pharmacy and view prescription information through the NHS App.
How do I register for EPS?
Simply ask a member of staff at your pharmacy or contact the practice. They can help you choose a nominated pharmacy and answer any questions you may have.
